Real Titanic Pictures

Titanic was a luxury passenger liner that hit an iceberg in Atlantic Ocean on its maiden voyage from the Southampton England to the New York City. The ill-fated Titanic, along with 1,517 people on board, sank on 15th April, 1912; and has been known as the worst ever maritime disaster in history.

Many pictures of the real Titanic are available on the internet, in libraries and other sources; from the beginning of the journey of an extraordinary vessel, to the demise of the one of the biggest ships ever at that time. The following account describes a few real Titanic pictures available today:

1. Titanic Crew and Passengers

Pictures of some of the Titanic crew and passengers are still available for the world to see. These famous people on board include:

  • Edward John Smith – Captain RMS Titanic
  • Bruce Ismay – Titanic Survivor: Managing Director of White Star Line
  • Thomas Andrews – Chief Designer RMS Titanic
  • William Murdoch – First Officer
  • Margaret (Molly) Brown – Titanic Survivor, who helped many people on life boats and later assisted in rescue efforts.
  • Frederick Fleet – Forward Lookout, who first announced the sighting of the iceberg and survived the disaster.

2. The Departing Titanic:

A few famous pictures of the real Titanic include the famous image of Titanic leaving Southampton on 10th April 1912. Some pictures depict the passengers waving at their relatives standing at the harbor. The photograph shows the ship steaming and ready to embark upon its journey.

3. The Luxurious Titanic:

There are many pictures of the inside of the ship, showing the luxurious first class dining room, gymnasium, the grand staircase, rooms, hallway, deck, coffee compartment etc. With the help of these pictures, the insides were remarkably recreated for the movie, Titanic, in 1997.

4. The Titanic Ice Berg:

There are a few real images of the ice berg that floated the waters of Atlantic Ocean that night and became the reason of the ship’s doom. The pictures clearly show the iceberg submersed in water, with only a tip visible above the ocean.

5. The Sinking Titanic:

Some pictures of the sinking Titanic were taken from the rescue boats by the survivors. They show the ship broken in half and submerged in ocean waters.

6. The Titanic Rescue Efforts:

Some real shots include those of rescue boats, and then their reaching Carpathia, the ship closest to Titanic that night. Real photo of a crowd gathered in New York City waiting for Titanic’s survivors is also available. Another photo shows Carpathia docked at New York following the rescue. There are real photos of the funeral services as well.

7. Titanic Newspapers Headlines:

Original images of the newspaper stories and headlines about the Titanic disaster are also part of the archives. Some of these newspapers are The New York Times, The Times Dispatch and The New York Herald etc.

8. The Titanic Band:

A real picture of the seven people who were the members of the band that played on Titanic is also part of the treasured Titanic archive.
